On 1 July 2025, Öresunddirekt celebrated its 25th anniversary with a festive reception in Malmö, bringing together partners and stakeholders from across the Öresund Region. The event was not only marked by cake and speeches, but by a strong sense of shared commitment to cross-border collaboration between Denmark and Sweden.
Founded in 2000, Öresunddirekt has become a key institution for individuals and businesses navigating the opportunities and practicalities of living and working across the Danish-Swedish border. Its mission is to make the Öresund Region more integrated and accessible by providing targeted, reliable information on topics such as taxation, social security, education, job markets, and entrepreneurship.
The service is powered by collaboration among several national authorities – including the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan), the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket), the Swedish Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen), and Denmark’s Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment (STAR) – all working side by side at the Öresunddirekt information center in Malmö.
For the Fehmarnbelt Business Council, Öresunddirekt stands as an exemplary model of what cross-border infrastructure truly means: not just roads and tunnels, but also institutional bridges that support people in their everyday lives. It shows how joint public services can reduce complexity and unlock growth across national borders.
As the Fehmarnbelt region prepares for its own deepening integration, Öresunddirekt’s 25-year journey offers important lessons. It reminds us that regional cooperation is a long-term investment, built on trust, practicality, and shared ambition.
Congratulations to the entire Öresunddirekt team – and thank you for your continued contribution to making the Öresund Region a pioneer in cross-border collaboration.
