Danish folketing passes construction law on FB Tunnel with 92% of votes

“This is a historic decision!” are the delightful words from both sides of the Fehmarnbelt. Nicolaus Lange, Chairman of the Fehmarnbelt Business Council and Michael Svane, Vice Chairman of the FBBC expressed their highest elation on today’s passing of the Construction Law in the Danish Folketing. On the same day that German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited the Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt the Danish Parliament has today passed the Danish law on construction and operation of the Fehmarnbelt fixed link with rail and road connection in Denmark.

Nicolaus Lange: “With the adoption of the legislation draft for the Fehmarnbelt construction law the Folketing has finally provided the official basis for the construction of the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel. This monumental decision brings us a large step closer towards the realization of a joint Business Region that will lead to a remarkable boost in culture, business and public life in Denmark and Germany.”

Michael Svane: “This is a huge step in the direction of a joint Danish German infrastructure and the most important decision towards cross border cooperation since the Bonn-Copenhagen Declaration on Danish and German cross border minorities in 1955, exactly 60 years ago.”

The decision taken by the Folketing today is subject to the approval by the political parties in the Folketing, once the contracts with the construction consortia will have been finally negotiated by Femern A/S and the EU support is known, in order to judge the full financial extend.
